THE CLIENT

The family firm founded in 1931,  known today as the AL-KO KOBER GROUP, is the leading supplier in the fields of vehicle technology, garden & hobby supplies and ventilation technology. The company employs around 4,200 people at 50 locations around the world in Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australia. In 2011, the AL-KO KOBER GROUP achieved sales of € 676 million.

THE CHALLENGE
AL-KO approached us with a request to translate their gardening product catalogue from German into the Latvian and Lithuanian languages. The catalogue had been created with InDesign and was intended for publishing. It contained specific technical terminology, yet it was written in a reader-friendly style. In addition to translation, some degree of localisation was required, thus adapting the units of measurement  and currencies to the respective locales in Latvia and Lithuania.

THE SOLUTION
In the past, the customer had to extract the translatable content from catalogues manually and then manually insert the translations back. The process was time consuming and did not take advantage of the large amount of repetitive content. In order to simplify the process, our Project Manager created an integrated workflow involving a team of technical translators, revisers and desktop publishing experts.

Thanks to our expertise in various desktop publishing tools, we were able to work with InDesign files and preserve the original layout and formatting of the catalogue. Moreover, the reuse of repetitive content allowed us to ensure absolute consistency and reduce costs.

THE RESULT
By relying on our team of experts and optimising the product catalogue production workflow, AL-KO achieved 30% faster turnaround time and 20% cost savings.

"The biggest advantage of Nordtext is that it is able to convert the received files using state-of-art technologies, maintain the original layout, and format the translated documents for further processing or printing. It is a pleasure to work with such a professional company that treats its customers and tasks in a very positive way."
Gregors Spoģis Sales and Marketing Manager of AL-KO Kober

THE CHALLENGE

Nordtext was appointed by a clinical development company to translate various documents related to clinical trials in multiple language pairs. All translations had to be completed in medium to short turnaround times and in highly professional manner, observing the correct medical terminology and officially approved document templates.

THE SOLUTION
We assigned one Project Manager as the main customer contact person, ensuring that any inquiries are dealt with in a timely and consistent way. A team of tested and pre-selected linguists was formed, with specific experience in clinical trial translations. Thanks to our expert use of translation technologies, a custom workflow was created helping to reuse already translated content and manage terminology to improve consistency and decrease the overall cost. A set of Quality Assurance procedures was applied to ensure deliverables are completely error free.

THE RESULT

The company has been constantly receiving high quality translations on time. Proactive project management and attentive customer care have ensured that any customer modifications or text updates were dealt with in a prompt and coherent manner. Nordtext’s Finance Team has further contributed to the successful cooperation with precise management of invoices.

Customized solution for website translation

THE CLIENT

Managed by Riga Tourism Development Bureau, www.liveriga.com is tourism information portal engaged in promotion and popularisation of tourism opportunities in Riga, capital of Latvia. With over 30 000 website visitors each month and new information being added several times per day, it is the largest portal of its kind in the Baltics, available in English, German, Latvian and Russian.

THE CHALLENGE
The website is managed through custom made content management system (CMS). New content is produced and added every day, often even by the hour, and requires instant translation and updating in four languages - English, German, Latvia and Russian. As the website's CMS was not suitable for integration with any other systems, our main challenge was to find a solution for connecting the CMS with a translation management system (TMS) so that new texts would be available for our translators as soon as they were submitted for translation.

THE SOLUTION
Web-based translation management system MemSource was chosen to manage the work of translators and revisers. Our team of engineers developed a customized application programming interface (API), which enabled:

  • automatic retrieval of new content from client's CMS;
  • parsing the source file to separate files by each target language;
  • automatic segmentation of translatable content;
  • merging translated files into one file containing segments of all target languages, as requested by the client.

With technical process well organized, translators were able to focus on translation and take full advantage of translation memory, terminology management and quality assurance features available in MemSource.

THE RESULT

LiveRiga was able to avoid time-consuming manual work and receive high quality translations within very short turnaround times.
